| 'Bluegrass' Mixes in Surround
Nashville Bela Fleck's critically acclaimed album, "The Bluegrass Sessions: Tales From The Acoustic Planet, Volume 2," we recently mixed for surround version at Seventeenth Grand Recording. This project, recorded and mixed at 24-bit, will be released on DVD-Audio. This marks the first time a project has been mixed in surround specifically for a DVD-Audio release. Studio co-owner Jake Niceley engineered the surround mix room. "When Bela first approached me about this project," Niceley explained, "he said he wanted it to sound as it would if the musicians were on stage in a circle around one microphone, or like when they get together in the parking lot at bluegrass festivals for jam sessions. So the big challange was in creating the proper ambiance to project that sound, that feeling. We were both extremely satisfied with the results."
